What does Net 30 mean on an invoice?

Net 30 means payment is due 30 days after the invoice date. The word “net” refers to the full amount owed, and the number is the count of days you're giving the client to pay.

When does the clock start?

Usually from the invoice date. So an invoice dated 1 April with Net 30 terms is due by 1 May. Some businesses count from delivery or from receipt — if that matters to you, state it explicitly.

Net 15, Net 30, Net 60

  • Net 15 — due in 15 days. Good for freelancers who need quicker cash flow.
  • Net 30 — the most common business term; a fair balance.
  • Net 60 — due in 60 days. Common with larger clients, harder on your cash flow.
